NTT Com’s Michael Wheeler will Discuss Cyber Security, including DDoS Attacks, and the Solutions to Address Such Attacks

New York, NY and Chicago, IL – May 09, 2016NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE: NTT), announced its participation at the International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2016 taking place in Chicago, May 8-11. ITW is the annual meeting for the global wholesale telecommunications community, bringing together participants from around the world and providing the opportunity to learn and network with industry peers, suppliers and customers.

Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America, will join industry leaders on the panel “The Path to Network Security in the Wholesale World” on Tuesday, May 10th, at 4:15pm. The session will focus on the role leading carriers play in the protection of global IP backbones and the solutions they offer, individually or by combining efforts with other carriers, to mitigate cyber attacks.

Mr. Wheeler has over 20 years of executive, sales management and operational experience in the Internet and communications industries. In his current role at NTT America, he is responsible for all financial, engineering, operational and customer relationship activities for the Global IP Network business unit.

“At NTT Com we take network security very seriously,” says Mr. Wheeler. “We look at security as protecting not only our network but also the network of our customers. DDOS attacks are among the most serious and pervasive threats that we see and we continually look to contain these issues,” Mr. Wheeler adds.

NTT Com offers DDoS protection and mitigation services that help address the situation in the event of a DDoS attack, identifying root causes and filtering traffic until the threat subsides. NTT Com has a dedicated network security team and state-of-the-art infrastructure in different locations around the world to mitigate attacks and scrub traffic.

“There has been a precedent of long-standing cooperation between tier-one players that support the broader Internet and the security measures used to protect it,” Mr. Wheeler says. “For instance, DDoS attacks are distributed in nature, coming from various parts of the world across different networks and to different points. It’s therefore helpful to work with other network operators to address those situations.”

“There’s no one-size-fits-all resolution, but there is no question that the wholesale industry believes security is a critical and constantly evolving challenge to address,” Mr. Wheeler concludes.

NTT Com’s DDoS Protection Service is part of the company’s award-winning transit wholesale portfolio along with its Tier-1 Global IP Network. The company was named Best North American Wholesale Carrier at the Global Carrier Awards 2015 and Best Wholesale Operator at the World Communication Awards 2015. NTT Com continues to rank as one of the top global wholesale IP providers in the latest Dyn (formerly Renesys) Global Wholesale Rankings.
